Do Architects and Engineers really need a Blog?

Blog WorldDo architects and engineering practices really need a blog?

After all, if you’re a competitive firm of architects or engineers, you already have a website, right? A blog, on the other hand, is simply a more informal “web log” (hence the name)- a chance to jot down a few thoughts on current projects, industry trends and promotions or new appointments within the practice.

So why the need to have a blog in addition to the website?

Chances are, your website will be fairly static, and you’ll need to pay programmers a fee to update anything on there. This is no good whatsoever for Google spiders, which are attracted by regularly updated content. Regardless of how engaging your copy is, it is very much one-sided and is still therefore, one of the more “traditional” marketing tools.

A blog on the other hand, is extremely time intensive. Items should ideally be posted two or three times each week, with craftily worded titles which will include your key words or phrases, to encourage those spiders to swoop on them. However, not only will blog posts (if written correctly) considerably enhance your SEO, they will also give interested parties (particularly your clients and potential clients) the chance to give you feedback, by commenting on each post.

Don’t underestimate the power of the blog – you’ll find that most large practices will now have one, with developers, investors, journalists and industry leaders all taking a keen interest.

This is not the time to bury your head in the sand. It is likely that your key competitors will already have a working blog in place which will be attracting internet traffic and potential clients. Isn’t it about time you started one too?
